Urban and Spatial Planning
Urban design embraces all planning procedures and measures which relate to the organisation and development of urban structure. Urban and spatial planning seeks to organise and develop areas at national, regional and local level according to the elementary facts of human existence such as housing, work, education, infrastructure, leisure and transport, so as to ensure optimum social and economic conditions and sustain the natural foundations of life.
Urban design and spatial planning takes a big picture approach to the design of urban environments, being concerned with aesthetic as well as functional aspects. To achieve high quality, sustainable environments that balance the needs and enhance the lives of the diverse range of people living and working within them. Good urban design will raise the quality and reduce the costs of the development of new or existing environments by applying a highly coordinated, strategic approach to all aspects of development of the urban-shape, both natural and built, from buildings, street layout, traffic, parking, public transport, noise, pedestrian and lighting to open spaces and planting.
In providing urban and spatial planning expertise we are not only following the vision of the "New Zealand Urban Design Protocol" in including essential design qualities that together create urban design, but also our company's vision to create better environments by design.
